Information for Parents

Everything you need to know about signing your child up for Code Club.

Please make sure to create free Scratch and Raspberry Pi accounts for your child before their first session so they can save their progress..

Parents!

Getting involved with Code Club is easy, you can enrol your child in a club through our website and the leader will be in touch about enrollment and your childs first session. Most clubs run alongside the school term once a week for an hour and depending on the size of the club, have devices for children to use. However no club is the same and the day, time, session duration and access to devices is up to the club leader.

Follow these steps to enrol your child in a club:

  1. Register an account.
  2. Once you're registered and logged in, click the "Add Child" button to add your child (or children!) to your account.
  3. Now it's time to Find a Club using our interactive map. Enrol your child or children in a club that suits you.
  4. If you can't find a local club, the Code Club projects are free to use for anyone. You can also contact our team and we will help you find a club.
  5. Before your child starts their first session, we recommend taking a look at Netsafe.org.nz for a wealth of information to help keep your child safe online.
  6. Most children start their journey at Code Club with Scratch. Please make sure they have a Scratch account before their first session, otherwise they will not be able to access their saved work. Please set them up with a unique username (not their real name) and password (write it down, but don’t share it) that they will remember. You can use your email address for more than one account too!
  7. Some children begin with text-based coding projects using languages like Python, HTML, and CSS, and almost every student will eventually transition to text-based coding. To use the editor and save projects, students will require a Raspberry Pi account If your child is younger than 13 please select 13 and over when signing up on behalf of your child.

Many parents also find themselves wanting to volunteer at their childs club. Check out our Code Club projects and give them a go yourself! See our FAQ page for the answer to any questions you might have.
